Country legends David and Homer Bellamy, better known as the Bellamy Brothers, grew up in Darby, Florida. David and Homer’s father was a member of a Tampa Bay–area Western swing band. In 1968, the two brothers performed their first gig with their father at the Rattlesnake Roundup benefit concert held in San Antonio, Florida. The annual event still takes place to this day, though it is now called the Rattlesnake Festival. Following their first gig at the Rattlesnake Roundup, the Bellamy brothers started performing at various fraternity parties at the University of Florida. Eventually, the brothers moved to Atlanta and formed a band called Jericho, though they soon moved back home to Tampa Bay. The Bellamy Brothers signed to Curb Records in 1975 and went on to become huge country stars throughout the 1970s and 1980s. (Both, courtesy of Douglas Cifers, FMI Publishing.)
